¹ In conjunc­tion with castle tours, wedding photos and for fami­lies, severely disabled persons with ID, Bad Bentheim guest card and groups of 15 persons or more (p. p.).
² From 15 people in conjunc­tion with a guided tour of the castle per pupil. Two accom­panying adults per school class are free of charge.

Partial closure of the battlement

Due to damage to a wall below the batt­le­ments, parts of the batt­le­ments at the Powder Tower are tempo­r­a­rily closed. The rest of the castle is open as usual and can be visited without rest­ric­tion.

A journey into the past: immerse yourself in the fasci­na­ting world of Bentheim Castle! Our castle tours allow you to discover the hidden secrets and rich history of these historic walls. Our expe­ri­enced castle guides look forward to taking you on this exci­ting tour of disco­very.

In addi­tion to our public castle tours, which you can take part in without prior regis­tra­tion, we also offer private castle tours as well as a digital castle tour on request. The digital castle tour takes place in the picturesque stables of Burg Bentheim and is speci­ally desi­gned for visi­tors who, for various reasons, are unable to explore the castle on foot. This inter­ac­tive expe­ri­ence allows you to explore the history and archi­tec­ture of the castle at your own pace, supported by exci­ting audio and video content.

Costs: Reduced admis­sion costs (see visitor infor­ma­tion), payable in cash or with a card at the castle ticket office + an addi­tional €4 per person (children up to 14 years free), which must be paid directly in cash to the castle guide.

HISTORY

History of the castle

Bentheim Castle is the largest hilltop castle in northwest Germany and was first mentioned in 1050. It has been owned by the Counts and Princes of Bentheim and Stein­furt for five centu­ries.

Explore Bentheim Castle and gain an insight into the history and secrets of almost an entire century. As one of the most beau­tiful excur­sion desti­na­tions in the county, the castle invites visi­tors to discover the large grounds, the powder tower or the stables.
